Lanny Yeates graduated from LSU Law School in 1981, where he was elected to Order of the Coif and also served as an Associate Editor of the Louisiana Law Review. He has taught Louisiana Oil and Gas Law at the The University of Houston Law Center as a member of the Adjunct Faculty. And he has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1982.  Lanny is presently the managing partner of the firm's Houston office. Lanny’s practice in the area of oil and gas has been diverse, but mostly he has represented oil and gas producers, as well as financial institutions that provide capital to the energy industry. Over the years Lanny has also been involved in many organizations such as the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute (serving as Chairman several times), and the Energy Policy Committee and the Oil & Natural Gas Exploration Committee of the American Bar Association. He also served on a committee that developed the ‘deepwater offshore operating agreement’ that was adopted by the American Association of Petroleum Landmen (AAPL) as the model form agreement. A prolific writer, Lanny has published several books, including Louisiana Oil and Gas Legislation (1994: 2nd ed. 1998), and Selected Commentary on Oil and Gas Law (2000 and 1999). His many articles include The Force Majeure Provision:  Faux Stipulation?(2006), Introduction to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (2006), Best Practice in Contract Drafting (2006), Louisiana and Texas Oil & Gas Law: An Overview of the Differences (1992, with Patrick H. Martin), Strategies Outlined for Doing Business in Russia (1992), The Accounting Provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (1994), and Indemnification and Anti-Indemnity Statutes as They Relate to Mineral Rights and Contracts (1986).

Most recently, Lanny published his first novel, Bay of One Hundred Fires, a chilling geo-political thriller.
