Lanny Yeates is a member resident in the Firm's Houston office. His practice in the area of oil and gas has been diverse, but focuses mainly on the representation of oil and gas producers as well as financial institutions that provide capital to the energy industry.

Lanny is active in both the legal community and oil and gas industry, and has served on numerous committees throughout his career. Since 1983, he has served as both a member of the Advisory Council of the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute and as its Chairman for multiple terms, and has also served the American Bar Association as Vice Chairman of the Energy Policy Committee and the Oil & Natural Gas Exploration and Production Committee. Lanny served on the Technical Subcommittee of the AAPL-OCS Committee’s Deepwater Offshore Operating Agreement Model Form Subcommittee which developed a deepwater offshore operating agreement that was adopted in 2000 by the AAPL as a model form. In February 2012, he was a panelist and presenter at the OCS Workshop on “Proposed Modifications to the Deepwater Joint Operating Agreement as a Result of Deepwater Moratorium Lessons Learned.”

Lanny earned his J.D. from LSU Law School in 1981 where he served as Associate Editor of Louisiana Law Review and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Legal Honor Society and Delta Sigma Pi. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He is a Life Loyal Member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Lanny also received his undergraduate degree from LSU, earning his B.S. in December 1977. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Lanny served on active duty from 1968 -1975 and in the active reserve from 1975-1979.

A prolific writer, Lanny has published several books including his first novel, Bay of One Hundred Fires published by BRAZOS VALLEY PRESS in 2004.
